Israeli industry has undergone a major shift in the last few decades, moving from labor intensive industries, like textiles and light industry, to high tech, medical electronics, agro-technology, telecommunications, fine chemicals, computer hardware and software, and diamond cutting and polishing. This move has led to a massive increase in exports, and resultant rise in GDP. This shift of emphasis has been a result of the highly skilled and educated workforce available to man the demanding positions.
